Meet Our Keynote Speaker – Nathan Wallis
One of the highlights of this year’s forum will be keynote speaker Nathan Wallis.
Nathan is one of New Zealand’s most respected and engaging neuroscience educators. Known for making complex science easy to understand, he has captivated audiences throughout New Zealand and internationally with his unique blend of humour, storytelling, and practical wisdom.
Drawing on decades of experience in education, counselling, human development, and neuroscience, Nathan helps people understand how the brain works and how that knowledge can improve our everyday lives.
At Age Is Just A Number 2026, Nathan will explore the science behind healthy ageing, resilience, lifelong learning, connection, and wellbeing. His message is both inspiring and empowering: our brains continue to adapt, grow, and change throughout our lives, and understanding this can help us age with confidence and purpose.
Whether you’re interested in personal growth, maintaining wellbeing, supporting loved ones, or simply curious about how the brain works, Nathan’s keynote is guaranteed to leave you informed, inspired, and thinking differently about what is possible as we age.

More Than Just a Forum
Age Is Just A Number is not a conference about getting older. It is a celebration of living well.
Throughout the day you’ll hear from a range of speakers and community voices, discover practical ideas for maintaining health and wellbeing, learn about local opportunities and services, and connect with others who share a positive outlook on ageing.
The event is designed to challenge outdated stereotypes and showcase the incredible contribution older people make to our communities every day.
You’ll leave with fresh ideas, valuable connections, and renewed confidence about the opportunities that lie ahead.
Why Age Is Just A Number Matters
Age Concern Taranaki believes that ageing should be celebrated, not feared.
The forum forms part of our wider Age Is Just A Number initiative, inspired by local artist and positive ageing advocate Paul Rangiwahia. Through his artwork and message, Paul encourages people to embrace ageing with optimism, purpose, and a commitment to lifelong growth.
The forum continues this conversation by bringing people together to explore how we can all age proactively, remain connected, and continue contributing to our communities.
